There's lots of talk these days about the Sandwich Generation ... those of us "sandwiched" between rearing our own children and taking care of our elderly parents, as well. I don't think of myself as being in the sandwich so much as holding it all together. I am the toothpick in a rather large club sandwich. You know, the kind of toothpick with the frilly bit of colored cellophane glued to the top for decoration? I'm the blue one. My children and my parents and even my dog are in this giant club sandwich. They are the turkey, bacon, cheese, tomatoes and lettuce. I think of my husband as the toast that supports it all. (He's a little rough on the outside, but soft and squishy inside.) My sandwich is usually pretty tasty ... I hope yours is, too. Let's try to savor every bite.
I was a writer/columnist ... who became a stay-at-home mom ... who morphed into a homeschooling mom ... who took up knitting while waiting for my children at chess tournaments ... and caring for my elderly parents. I opened my online shop, http://www.thepatternbox.com in 2008. (Check it out for more of my designs!) Leisure Arts published "Storybook Dolls to Knit," my book of walkabout puppets, in 2011. My newest adventure: A grandson!
